March is National Nutrition Month®

“Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.”

What this means to us is that we will strive to encourage nutrition throughout the month of March.  A lot of our friends have tried fad diets, extreme caloric restriction, and excessive excercise.  With this campaign we believe that it is important to educate our staff and the people we come into contact with to eat right. We are pretty sure that at least a majority of the people that we know can afford to eat at least a little bit better.  Our blog posts throught the month will be focused on healthy eating tips and related material. New years resolutions have come and gone, those that have stuck with eating right for the past two months might like some new information and those that hadnt even started yet might get a boost to get going.  Eating right benefits your oral health as well. Eating less sugar and more healthy and “clean” options keeps the entire body running more smoothly. Today we will start by offering the education of  a strong immune system as written about on (Found at  . Since the cold and flu seems to still be hitting our area we want to remind you that your immune sysytem is the bodies best defense.   “A strong immune system is one of your best defenses against infections from bacteria, viruses and other health problems like arthritis and certain types of cancer. Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods every day will give your body the nutrition it needs to help protect against illness and reduce your risk of chronic disease.

By choosing foods that provide the most nutrients per calorie, you can create healthy habits that will benefit your health now and for the rest of your life:

  • Start each day with a healthy breakfast that includes whole grains and foods packed with calcium, vitamin D and vitamin C.
  • Replace refined grains with whole grains like whole-grain breads, cereals and brown rice.
  • Pre-washed salad greens and pre-cut vegetables make great quick meals or snacks.
  • Choose fresh, frozen or canned whole fruit for snacks and desserts.
  • Don’t forget beans, which are rich in fiber, folate and flavanoids.
